The Joy of Creative Chaos

Have you ever noticed that creative people rarely do just one thing?

Think about it. Writers often write across disciplines, or give presentations and readings while working on multiple projects.

Actors are often in the process of rehearsing one project, while directing/producing another, while writing a book, and doing gigs with their bands.

Scientists (yes I think scientists are creative) might play musical instruments on the side, or be members of a chorus.

And anyone attempting to make a living as a freelance artist is usually juggling multiple projects at any given time.

This to me, is part of the joy that is creativity, because I truly believe that creativity breeds creativity. Some people, however might call this chaos, as the multiple ideas and projects always seem to be on a collision course of moving parts.

Of course, because many of my projects are also dictated by a timeline not of my making (in particular the academic schedule of the various schools where I teach) sometimes everything really does happen at once. For example, over the next few weeks (actually it all started last week) I have:

3 public applied theatre workshops with different groups (transition students, young new citizens, and adult new citizens

The premiere production of my new theatre company (Heart Forward), being performed at two different locations.

You would think that would be enough, but as usual the more I have to do--the more creative chaos swirls around me--the more I am able to accomplish. I have been inspired to work more on my literary fiction WIP. (I know I am being secretive about it, I'm just not ready yet to share because I am still discovering what it really is about). I am writing more on another project about creativity. I am helping others bring their book babies to life, as a book coach. I am brainstorming what happens next for Heart Forward, and developing ideas. And, I am (hopefully) keeping my students and my daughter inspired.

If this sounds like complaining, it's not. I thrive on creative chaos. I find it inspirational. I am sharing because of my excitement, and because I hope to see you at any of these events. Just be sure to stop by and say hello!
